Did you know there is only 1 crane in the whole county of Belize? In fact, there is only 1 cinema also but that's irrelevant because our motor home was up to the wheels in swamp mud and we couldn't watch a movie if we tried. If you've ever encountered swamp mud, you'll know there's nothing quite as sticky except for super glue. Hopkins was our Belize destination, just outside of the town of Dangriga.

The non-ubiqitous crane was what we ordered to pull us out of the swamp mud the day after the frogs' mating calls drove me to distraction while in the swamp. BTW, did I mention the generator had broken so we were without AC? Yes, we're American and spoiled!!!!
Sweaty and suffering from ear damage, we watched in humiliation as the town residents gathered to view the CRANE LIFTING OF THE MOBILE HOME OF THE AMERICANS.
Surprised that we even got the mobile home through the entry point to Belize. The government charges a huge tax on any imports and we had purposely bought a really old model of RV. However, it was so old that it was not in their Blue Book. We agreed on a small tax at the checkpoint and wandered through the mobile home graveyard of those would-be immigrants who were perhaps not so smart. I would love to have had one of those $400,000+ mobile homes that were rotting at the border.....
Anyhow, feeling proud and excited that we had thwarted the authorities and we could continue ot our dream, we drove overnight to our plot.
On a great day, you can find people selling coconuts and fried chicken. On a bad day, well.....
